Genotropin / Saizen
Genotropin and Saizen are growth hormone treatments. It’s an exact, man-made copy of your body’s own naturally occurring growth hormone HGH (human growth hormone). Although a synthetic hormone treatment, both Saizen and Genotropin have a long track record of safety and efficacy having been in use for more than 20 years in over 50 countries.
HGH (sometimes called somatotropin or somatropin) is a peptide hormone secreted by the pituitary gland – a pea sized structure located at the base of the brain. HGH is the most influential of all the pituitary hormones – not just because it is fundamental to growth and development but also because it controls a whole range of functions ultimately affecting every cell in the body.
HGH is crucial for the growth of muscle, tissue, cartilage and bone. By stimulating amino acid uptake and protein synthesis and by encouraging new muscle cells (myoblasts), HGH plays a vital role in the creation of muscle and tissue growth. By motivating the liver and other tissues into secreting a chemical known as insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), HGH also encourages the growth of cartilage cells, which leads to bone growth.
HGH also works with IGF-1 to help keep our metabolisms healthy, directly affecting how well our bodies convert food into energy, muscle and fat. HGH, therefore, plays an important part in maintaining a healthy body shape. Indeed, many of the health benefits that we associate with youth are linked to HGH. And it’s HGH that’s responsible for giving us youthful vitality and energy.
A number of factors influence HGH production. It is typically secreted during the early hours of sleep. Some is also released after exercise. Not surprisingly therefore, poor sleep and lack of exercise affect the amount of HGH released. The usual suspects of diet and stress also play their part.
But it is age that really plays havoc with the amount of HGH that our bodies produce. HGH is produced throughout our lives with peak production being during puberty. Although our bodies continue to manufacture HGH throughout our lives, less and less is actually released. This means that our HGH levels decline significantly as we grow older. From about the age of 25 our HGH levels begin to decline rapidly (at about a rate of 14% per decade) so that by the time we reach 60, most people have around 80% less growth hormone in their system than they had at the age of 20.
This decline in HGH levels with age is sometimes referred to as the somatopause and is directly associated with many of the symptoms of aging such as: gray hair, shrinking of organs (i.e. brain, kidneys; heart), increased risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis, increased body fat, poor general health, a decline in the general feeling of well being and increased anxiety.
However, by supplementing declining HGH levels, HGH supplementation has been shown to have remarkable age-reversing effects on the body. Prior to the development of synthetic HGH in the 1980s, HGH was only used to treat children affected by growth hormone deficiency and stunted growth, or adults with severe pituitary gland problems. Without a synthetic alternative, the HGH used had to be sourced from the pituitary glands of dead people. This carried the inherent risk of passing on the fatal brain disease Creutzfeldt –Jacob Disease (CJD). The synthetic form of HGH as used in Genotropin carries no such risk and the development of synthetic HGH has revolutionised its use.
And it’s in the realms of anti-aging medicine that HGH has really come to the fore. HGH is the first substance to have been clinically proven to reverse the effects of aging having been validated by a number of rigorous double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies. The ground breaking work of Dr Daniel Rudman published in the highly respected New England Journal of Medicine in 1990 marked the beginning of the use of HGH as an anti-aging medicine.
Dr Rudman undertook a six month trial of HGH supplementation in 12 men aged from 61 to 81. Every single one of the study participants gained muscle and bone density, lost fat, thickened their skin and expanded their livers and spleens after taking HGH. What makes these results even more astonishing is that all of these positive changes were achieved without the participants altering their diets, lifestyles or smoking habits. Dr Rudman concluded that the HGH supplementation regime he had placed the men on had in effect reversed their biological age by 10 to 20 years!
Dr Rudman’s remarkable results have since been verified by further clinical trials which have also demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of HGH supplementation.
The benefits of using Genotropin or Saizen as an HGH therapy include:-
• Loss of body fat leading to significant weight loss. For example in Dr Rudman’s study the men lost on average 14% of their body fat
• Increased lean muscle mass; Again in Dr Rudman’s study the men gained on average 8.8% lean muscle mass. This results in increased strength. HGH therapy has also been used to counteract the effects of muscle wasting in AIDS patients
• Improvements in skin thickness and elasticity; This can manifest itself as a reduction in wrinkles and the re-appearance of more youthful skin tone
• Enhanced feelings of general well being and a reduction in feelings of depression and anxiety. Improved emotional stability. More optimistic outlook
• Strengthening of the immune system; Our immune systems become much less effective as we age making us prone to the development of a whole raft of diseases. By strengthening our immune systems, not only are we less susceptible to infection and disease, but recovery from illness is aided and immune related diseases become less troublesome for us. Allergies also improve.
• Increased sexual potency and libido
• Increased energy levels and vitality with improved stamina
• Improved sleeping patterns with better quality, sounder sleep
• Improved digestion
• Improved mental processes.
• Improved nail growth and hair condition
• Increased LDL cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol)
• Improved eyesight
Dosage
It is essential that you follow a regime of HGH therapy under the strict guidance of your doctor and that regular blood monitoring is undertaken both before and during treatment. It is important that you undergo a full check up by an anti-aging doctor before you commence HGH therapy.
Doctors administering HGH for preventative/ anti-aging purposes utilize in the region of 0.01mg to 0.02mg of HGH per kg of body weight (2.2 lbs) per week which is injected subcutaneously (just under the skin). The weekly dose is divided into 3 to 5 injections per week.
HGH supplements decline in frequency and may even stop for a while once you have reached an IGF1 blood plasma test equivalent to that of a 21 to 31 year old. Doctors do differ on this point with some advocating a level equivalent to the early 20s and others using measures equivalent to those of someone in their early 30s.
Side Effects
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) and inadequate thyroid function.
